Davide Mattera (Milan, 1984) is a contemporary artist based in Barcelona. His practice revolves around painting, a medium through which he explores emotion, memory, and transformation.

With a background in Visual Arts and roots in Milan’s underground graffiti scene, Mattera merges refined technique with raw instinct. His work is also informed by years of experience in music production and over two decades as a tattoo artist.

At the core of his aesthetic lies a balance between materiality and abstraction, chaos and harmony. Strongly influenced by Japanese minimalism, his approach focuses on removing rather than adding—stripping down to the essence and letting silence hold meaning.

His paintings are fragments of a continuously evolving process, suspended between presence and disappearance, always open to interpretation.

Davide Mattera approaches painting as a process of subtraction and listening. Each work is a space where gesture, material, and emptiness converge to evoke what escapes explanation.

Rooted in the immediacy of graffiti and the precision of tattooing, his visual language has evolved into a deeper investigation of memory, perception, and transformation. The influence of Japanese minimalism is central to his aesthetic—a commitment to reduction, where silence and absence become powerful presences.

Mattera does not aim to represent, but to resonate. His paintings are living spaces, suspended between appearance and fading, where every trace is a threshold and every absence, an invitation.
